HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 23/10/2020
Fri 23 Oct 2020Dear Parents and Carers
Wow – what an end to the term!
I want to start by thanking the PTFA for planning and organising today’s Halloween Event. All the children looked incredible in their costumes; the school has definitely had a spooky, and altogether ooky feel today.
It has been a busy term but there has been such a positive feel in the school and everyone has worked hard to make the term a success – thank you.
In our featured photo this week, you can see some of our Year 1 children learning about The United Kingdom; locating some of the landmarks and labelling the different countries. This is one of the many, amazing activities the children have enjoyed this week – it was great to see our young children developing their geography skills.
Also, we have been busy filming our promotional video, Steven Morely (film producer) spent two days with us filming and directing across the whole school. The children were all excellent performers; I am sure we have some Hollywood stars in the making. But most importantly, Steve shared that he thought the children’s behaviour and enthusiasm was excellent – well done children.
Finally, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the pupils and staff for their hard work and commitment during Term 1, and to extend this thanks to all of our families, who have shown great support during this first term of our full-reopening.
I wish you all a very enjoyable half-term break and I look forward to welcoming all of the pupils back to school on Wednesday 4th November.
Best wishes Mrs Pocock

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 16/10/2020
Fri 16 Oct 2020Welcome to this week’s weekly update.
I would like to start by saying thank you to everyone who donated to our harvest collection, as you can see from my headline photo the Glenleigh Park community has been very generous. On Monday the children were fortunate to have a very informative assembly from Reverend David and his colleague Karline Botha, the children were introduced to some new and exotic fruits and discussed the importance of sharing and kindness.
This week we also had our first parent consultations via telephone. I am so pleased with how this process went and the feedback from the teachers and yourselves has been entirely positive – thank you.
As I have previously shared everyone at Glenleigh Park believes reading is a fundamental skill that all children must master, therefore we are ensuring that it has a high profile in every Glenleigh classroom. I am sure the teachers all shared with you during your parent consultations that reading at home, regularly, is vital in supporting children to develop not only a love of books but the fluency and comprehension skills they need to be successful readers.
Similarly, we are absolutely determined that the children at Glenleigh Park will receive an inspirational curriculum and I am delighted to say this is happening. Your children should be sharing with you the focuses of their learning journeys and how they are learning about key concepts and how they connect and link across the curriculum. We have carried out all the usual reviews of our curriculum this term and we have been impressed with the quality of work in the children’s books. It was clear that all the children across the school are striving to do their best!
Have a really wonderful weekend

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 9/10/2020
Fri 09 Oct 2020Welcome to this week’s Head’s update. I am pleased to share that this week has been incredibly productive in school with all the children and staff working hard. One of my highlights of the week was listening to the excitement in year 2 when the dragons appeared in their classrooms; burning their work, leaving messy footprints and causing destruction. This eventful experience resulted in the children producing some high-quality and creative writing.
This year one of the areas for improvement for the school is to look at our curriculum and see how we can continue to develop and improve it. Previously, we used Paragon as a starting point for our foundation subjects but there is always more that we can do to improve. This week all our curriculum leaders have been looking at the work in children’s books and visiting classrooms to see what we are doing well and what areas we can improve upon. It has been really interesting and I am very impressed with the quality of children’s work.
Each teacher has their own curriculum area that they are responsible for leading and they have all been working hard on reviewing and improving their subjects. We will share more information about the school’s curriculum as we continue to develop it and will be seeking your views in the near future.
Next week, we are really looking forward to our parents’ evening consultations (via telephone), I am really pleased that so many of you have already booked your slots through Arbor – thank you. If you have not managed to do this please try to book a time as this is an opportunity for you to discuss how your child/children are settling this year and how you can support your child at home with their learning.
Finally, please do take a look at our bulletin that is sent weekly, it has important events and dates for you and is a great way for us to let you know what’s happening!
Enjoy the weekend

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 2/10/2020
Fri 02 Oct 2020It is hard to believe that we have been back at school for 4 week, the time is whizzing by. As always we have had a week of fabulous learning with lots to celebrate.
On Monday we joined over 1,000,000 pupils to watch The Big Anti-Bullying Assembly, which was produced by The Diana Award and Nationwide Building Society. They identified that so much has changed for schools and young people because of COVID-19 so they wanted to support schools and children in returning to school by sharing messages for mutual respect in our schools and communities. The video included many famous faces and there was even a special message from the England men’s football coach Gareth Southgate. The video shared important messages with our children that link closely to our school values and vision. In all the classes the children discussed putting an end to bullying, celebrating diversity, and creating communities of kindness. All key attributes that I am sure you agree we all strive to achieve.
Also, this week we have celebrated National Poetry week, all the classes engaged in sharing poems, writing poems and discovering all the wonderful ways we can use words when writing poem.
Primrose and Buttercup classes wrote acrostic poems to celebrate their class names.
Summer appears to be officially over and the cooler autumn mornings are fast approaching, the early signs of autumn are appearing which means we will be celebrating Harvest festival soon. This spectacular season brings many exciting changes but the colder and dark nights can make things difficult for some. Therefore, we are really pleased to share that Reverend Lockwood will be leading a Harvest Festival Service to all the school via an online platform from the church and we will be collecting food donations for ‘Bexhill Foodbank.’ Further details regarding how you can donate will be sent in a separate letter.
Finally, we are hoping to be able to invite parents to sign up for parent consultations soon using Arbor as these will need to be via telephone call we are just finalising all the details and will update you soon.
Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe and wrapped up warm, as the weather is set to be pretty miserable this weekend when Storm Alex hits.
