HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 18/12/20
Fri 18 Dec 2020Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome to my final update of the year!
Today marks the end of term 3 and what a term it has been. We have so much to be proud of and celebrate; our Super Sporty Santa Dash, the Terrific Times Tables Rockstars dress up day, Anti-bullying Spotty Socks day and our Fun Festive Christmas dinner and jumper day – to name but a few. Alongside all these awesome activities, the children have worked incredibly hard in all the curriculum areas and I am especially pleased with the progress they have all made with their reading, writing and maths. I am sure you agree, the children have shown such resilience and determination to achieve over the past few months – well done to all.
I also want to thank you all, despite the current pandemic and the difficulties Coronavirus has thrown our way, you have been so supportive of the school and helped us with ensuring the safety of the whole school community. I recognise that, in sending your children to our school, you are putting great trust in us, both to care for and to educate them. This year, this could not be more true. So thank you for continuing to believe in us through this challenging time, particularly when there must have been times of real worry for you. The supportive emails you have sent mean a great deal to the staff team and the generous gifts and cards of thanks are so appreciated.
I know that Christmas will not be the same this year, but I hope you all have a truly wonderful time with your families, celebrating safely and joyfully.
Finally, although 2020 has been a year of considerable complexities, I am sure you will agree that we have worked together to provide your children with the safest and most effective education possible.
Take care, stay safe and let’s hope 2021 is kinder to us all.

HEADS UPDATE 14/12/20
Mon 14 Dec 2020Welcome to my heads update.
On Friday, we celebrated the end of another fantastic week at Glenleigh Park with our Christmas Jumper Day. All the children looked very festive and it was a joy to see them all getting into the Christmas spirit. We were overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of you all for our Food Bank Christmas collection. As you will see from the photograph, a huge amount was donated and we are so pleased that this will be able to help those in need over the Christmas period. Thank you to everyone who has given towards this worthy cause.
We have also been delighted with the sounds of Christmas song, as each year group continues to practise their Christmas songs, ready to be recorded next week. I am so looking forward to being able to share the recordings with you all, as I know many parents/guardians will have missed being able to see the usual Christmas performances.
Our focus last week was on the theme of perseverance, one of Glenleigh Park’s school values. Throughout the challenging times that we are all facing, we have been so impressed with our children who have shown great perseverance and amazing resilience. Each Friday, we celebrate a child in each class by awarding our Golden Trophies. All of our teachers found it very difficult to award the trophies to just one child in their class, as they have all been so fantastic!
Although this is the last week of term and I know everyone is really looking forward to Christmas. I would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that we will still be very much focused on the learning of all our children. Our morning sessions will be dedicated to Maths and English as usual, but we will of course still find time for lots of fun and activities!
Happy Monday.

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 4/12/2020
Fri 04 Dec 2020Welcome to my weekly heads update.
With only 22 sleeps until Christmas, I wanted to share that the Glenleigh Park front entrance has become very festive. As you can see from my headline photo, all the children’s hard work has resulted in our tree looking super sparkly and splendid. Some of our year 3 pupils are smiling proudly in this photo, as they told me their job had been to make the school shine – and they definitely succeeded!
Although we are beginning to see signs of Christmas in the school, teaching and learning remains as strong as ever with all the children working hard and focusing on their learning. In year 2 this week, our children have been using their phonics knowledge to tackle the phonics screening test and we have been very impressed with their segmenting and blending – well done children.
Thinking about assessments, and in light of the government announcement this week, that their approach to the 2021 national curriculum assessments will focus on the most important summer assessments for schools, pupils and parents. I wanted to reassure all our parents that we will working hard to ensure our children make excellent progress by continuing to plan and develop our curriculum to allow everyone to achieve. It is important to us at Glenleigh Park that we make certain the children know more and remember more and we assure this through our high quality teaching and learning. Therefore, we will continue to work hard and support all the children to achieve to the best of their ability in all of their end of year assessments.
Finally, I wanted to say how pleased we are that so many of you have taken the opportunity to book your children into our sports clubs that start next term. These clubs will help the children to develop their teamwork and tactical techniques which we know are important life skills.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Pocock
