HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 21/5/21
Fri 21 May 2021Dear Parent and Carers,
Welcome to another heads update, the penultimate week of this term! As always, I am pleased to share that the children have been working hard.
On Wednesday we joined many other schools and organisations, across the country, to celebrate National Numeracy Day. The rationale behind the day was to build children's confidence with numbers. As you can see from the photos on this page, the children at Glenleigh park love numbers and all ideas associated with maths.
Our reception children love investigating number facts, so much so, they found out that a Barosaurus was the same length as 6 cars, which is the same as 22 reception children and 1 teacher! And in comparison a Stegosaurus is 9 metres long... the same as 2 cars or 9 reception children!
Across the school the children have worked hard to problem solve, research and explore all different number related facts and questions. There has been a buzz around the beauty of maths and how fascinating numbers can be.
Also this week, I have been delighted by the writing in year 1. They have been extending their story writing skills and gathering ideas to support their poetry writing, inspired by the book 'What did the tree see?'.
Looking ahead to next week, I want to remind you that the term ends for all pupils on Wednesday 23rd May. Thursday and Friday are teacher training days, we have two jam packed days of training for all the staff. We will be focusing on developing our skills in how to support all the children to achieve academically and socially, after such a challenging year.
Have a wonderful weekend

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 14/5/21
Fri 14 May 2021Dear Parents and Carers
On Monday, the children who attend running club were delighted to be joined by a GB athlete Elsie Lovell. Elsie talked to the children about the different events she has participated in, including competing for Great Britain. She then organised a series of enjoyable and engaging activities focusing on good running techniques - the children explored the importance of how they use their arms while running to increase speed and ability as well as how to effectively start a race. As you can see from my headline photos – everyone had lots of fun.
I hope that everyone received the letter this week about the launch of our online reading programme MyOn. MyOn is a digital library with hundreds of eBooks for children to choose from. The children will be assigned different texts that link with the year groups learning journeys, so please encourage your child to read these.
Finally, you will have received a letter today about how important it is for all pupils to attend school everyday. We have had two years of disruption to our children's education so it is vital that children are in school on time and attending everyday. If you need any support with getting you child to school please speak to the main office or their class teacher.
Have a lovely weekend

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 7/5/21
Fri 07 May 2021Dear Parents/Carers
I hope you have all had an enjoyable week; it has been an exciting and eventful one in school.
On Tuesday, the school field was transported back in time to 1066, when one of the most famous battles in English history took place – the Battle of Hastings. The year 2 children reenacted the battle with Daffodils as the Normans and Tulips the Anglo-Saxons. The Normans were victorious, beating the Anglo-Saxons (the English to you and me). King Harold was killed and William of Normandy became King. It was such a wonderful experience for the children and they used all their learning from the past few weeks to support them in accurately reenacting the battle. The children’s outfits were excellent – thank you for your support with these.
Then in year 4, the children had a surprise visitor - King Henry 8th. The powerful King popped by to investigate the children’s knowledge regarding historical sources. Luckily, he was impressed with their understanding and knowledge of the past; in particular the Tudor times so no one was beheaded.
Finally, I want to share with you that our new school website has launched this week. Our new site has been built to hopefully make navigating the site more accessible and user friendly. Our aim is to regularly upload key information to the website so you can access all the key documents, letters and bulletins when you need them.
Have a good weekend
