Meet The Staff

Senior Leadership Team

Ms L Barnard - Headteacher

My name is Libby Barnard and I am the Headteacher at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy and Nursery. I joined the team in April 2019. I love working at Glenleigh Park because the staff and children are so amazing and every day I get to learn something new! At home, I live with my two daughters, who despite only being 9 and 13 years old seem to have a better social life than me! I am not a huge sports fan but I do enjoy walking with my girls and my extended family. We love a seafront stroll or a muddy forest adventure.

When I was at secondary school, I received my bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, which involved a lot of walking up mountains in both Wales and the Lake District. Art is my passion and although I don't have that much time for it right now, when I do have a spare day, I enjoy visiting galleries and exhibitions of different artists. An interesting fact about me is that I have a piece of my artwork hanging in the library at my old university.

Mr E Gillham - Assistant Head (Teaching and Learning, Upper Key Stage 2 Lead)

My name is Ed and I am the Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning at Glenleigh Park Academy. My teaching career to date has included Early Years experience in Australia, Middle Leadership in a Teaching School based in South London and a range of Senior Leadership positions in Sussex.  I feel very lucky to work in schools and I am passionate in supporting staff to provide irresistible opportunities to learn. I especially enjoy all things Geography and am always interested in researching different maps, flags and capital cities. Outside of school, I am a huge football fan – although I talk a better game than I can play! I have a young family and enjoy spending time on walks with them, in local woods or down on the seafront. I also enjoy different world food and although I’m not very good at cooking it, I am excellent at eating it! An interesting fact about me, is that even though I have a fear of heights, I have been up in a hot air balloon, a helicopter, a plane and a reverse bungee!

Mrs A Tanner - Assistant Head (Inclusion Lead/SENCo and KS1 Lead)

My name is Mrs Tanner, and I am the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion Lead) and KS1 Lead at Glenleigh Park. I have worked in a variety of teaching and leadership roles throughout my career and I am passionate about developing teaching and learning, as well as creating inclusive learning environments where all children can thrive. Outside of school, I enjoy walking, travelling and exploring new places. I have a passion for sport and outdoor pursuits and enjoy hiking, snowboarding, CrossFit and running. Equally, I enjoy relaxing, eating good food and spending time with my family.

Miss D Sargent – Assistant Head, Lower Key Stage 2 Lead

Hi, I’m Miss Sargent and I’ve been part of the Glenleigh Park team since 2017. I absolutely love working here - our school community is incredibly special, and I feel lucky every day to work with such wonderful children and dedicated staff.

I’m proud to be part of the Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher and Lower Key Stage Two Phase Lead. I’m hugely passionate about leading Maths at Glenleigh Park and firmly believe in setting our children up to become lifelong mathematicians—confident, curious, and ready to tackle challenges.

As part of my role, I also work with other schools across the Aurora family to support and develop the teaching and learning of maths. It’s a privilege to collaborate with colleagues beyond our school and help shape maths education across the Trust.

When I’m not busy with all things maths, I love spending time outdoors with my family and learning new skills at the gym. I’m always up for a challenge and love finding new ways to grow — both personally and professionally.

Mrs N Briggs - Early Years Lead

My name is Natasha Briggs and I teach part time in Reception while also leading Early Years at Glenleigh Park. I began my teaching journey here in 2015 and have remained ever since. It is a place I hold close to my heart, a school that truly puts children first, which is exactly what education should be. My passion for teaching comes from a deep love of learning, and there is something magical about helping young children discover that same joy. Those quiet little "aha" moments when something tricky suddenly makes sense are incredibly special. At home I have a three year old son who is teaching me all over again how children learn and grow. It is a very different experience when it is your own child, and it has given me a renewed appreciation for the wonder of early development. In my free time I enjoy being outdoors with my family and our dog, whatever the weather, and I especially love coming home to a warm hot chocolate and being cosy.

Mr J Green - Safeguarding and Welfare Lead

I am the Safeguarding and Welfare Lead at Glenleigh Park. I support school staff to ensure that all children who come to Glenleigh are safe and valued. I work particularly closely with our Pastoral Assistants and Family Support Workers to ensure that our children's needs are met and that they are happy, at home and at school. Parents and carers can also come to me if they need advice about behaviour management in the home or help with accessing community resources. I have been working with children and families for over thirty years – and I still enjoy it!

Teaching Staff

Foundation Stage - Reception

Mrs N Briggs – Class Teacher and Early Years Lead

Mrs S Jeffrey - Class Teacher

I'm Mrs Jeffrey and I'm one of the class teachers at Glenleigh Park. I've taught across many year groups during my career and have loved how different each age group is.

I love being outside in all weathers and I am a big camping fan. I have three cats called Ezmai, Toby and Nala, who love cuddling up with me when I'm reading. One of my favourite childrens' books is The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton and I've always wanted to find a tree with magical worlds to visit.

When I was a child, Mary Poppins was my favourite film. I think this was my inspiration to work with children but unfortunately I can't tidy a room by clicking my fingers!

Key Stage 1

Miss L Worrall – Class Teacher

Miss C Pierce - Class Teacher

I’m Charlotte Pierce, and I joined the wonderful Glenleigh Park team in September 2020. I love being a class teacher at Glenleigh Park because the amazing children and teachers make the school such a happy place to be. In my spare time, I enjoy walking along our beautiful seafront, baking sweet treats, and travelling whenever I can. My favourite holidays have been to Italy, where I enjoyed seeing the breath-taking sights in Pompeii, and eating my body weight in gelato in Sorrento! I studied Psychology at university, and it is still a real passion of mine. I find our brains fascinating and enjoy reading about how we grow, learn, and think. But when I’m really relaxing, I like nothing more than watching a good movie and munching popcorn in my PJs!

Miss H Turner – Class Teacher

My name is Miss Turner and I joined the Glenleigh Park Academy teaching team in September 2024. I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Primary Education, with a Specialism in Mathematics. I have completed my Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards, and therefore look forward to supporting the children in achieving their ‘Junior Duke’. Outside school, I enjoy going on walks along the beach, keeping active in the gym and travelling the world. I have a passion for sports and have been a competitive gymnast since the age of 5 years.

Key Stage 2

Miss S Thunder - Class Teacher

I'm Miss Thunder, and I’ve been part of the Glenleigh Park team since 2021. I love supporting children as they grow and learn throughout their time at school. It’s such a rewarding experience to watch each child develop new skills and gain confidence.

My favourite subject to teach is Art because it gives children a chance to express themselves and get creative. I really enjoy seeing their unique ideas come to life through their artwork!

Outside school, I like going for long walks with my dog, Smudge — it’s a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and exploring new places. Travelling is something I’m passionate as well.  I would like my next trip to be to go to Italy as pasta is my favourite food!

Mrs R Turner - Class Teacher

My name is Mrs Turner, and I’m currently a Year 3 teacher and the Phonics Lead here at Glenleigh Park.

I joined the team in October 2020 and have been lucky enough to teach in Reception, Year 1, Year 2, and now Year 3.

I’m really passionate about early reading and love helping children get off to the best possible start in their reading journey. It is so lovely to see their confidence grow as they develop a real love of books and reading.

In the classroom, I strive to create a positive and nurturing environment where children feel supported, curious, and excited to learn.

Outside school, I enjoy beach walks with my dog, Tillie, going out for dinner with friends, and spending time with my family.

Mr S Wheeler - Class Teacher

My name is Mr Wheeler; I am a Year 4 teacher and the Wellbeing and Computing Lead at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy. I have been part of the Glenleigh Park staff since September 2020. I enjoy working in such a positive, inclusive and hard-working team as well as being surrounded by our funny, resilient and awesome children! I have a degree in PE so love sports and going to the gym as well as listening to music and watching a Netflix series. One of my greatest achievements is writing and publishing my book: You Are Awesome! It was so lovely having students asking me to sign their copies and tell me how awesome they are!

Mr M Sullivan - Class Teacher

My name is Mr Sullivan. I am a Year 4 teacher who joined Glenleigh Park this year. I've been teaching since 2022 and have experiences across almost every year group, with each age group bringing its own joys. I'm a firm believer in trying your best even if you think it's going to be a challenge, you'll never know if you don't try.

I enjoy travelling in my spare time and seeing new things, there's always something new to be found that I've never seen before!

Miss H Beazer - Class Teacher

My name is Miss Beazer and I have worked at Glenleigh Park since 2019. I began my career as a Teaching Assistant and then followed my dream to become a Class Teacher. I have three children who have all attended Glenleigh and when we are not at school, we have a passion for football and rugby. Lots of our weekends and evenings are spent on cold, wet, muddy fields and I couldn't think of anything better! I have a passion for Art and DT and enjoy seeing children being creative and experimental with designs and materials. I hope you enjoy all the creations they bring home!

Mrs T Fry - Class Teacher

I am Mrs Fry and I have been teaching at Glenleigh Park since September 2024 and there is nothing I love more than supporting children to reach their full potential. An interesting fact about me is that I once did a skydive to raise money for charity, even though I'm terrified of heights! It was an amazing experience. Also, I love cows, but as my garden isn't big enough for me to own one, I have two cats instead. When it's time to relax, I like to spend time with my two children or snuggle down with a good book.

Mr P Green - Class Teacher

My name is Mr Green. I am a Year 5 teacher and KS2 English and Reading Lead at Glenleigh Park. I have been at Glenleigh for eight years and love working here. The children are so enthusiastic, and I love getting to know them all. I am a big sports fan. I love watching and playing lots of different sports. I particularly enjoy football and playing for a team on Saturdays. I also love running. You may bump into me running along the seafront! Make sure you give me a wave!

My other big passion is reading. I particularly love reading childrens' books. We are so lucky to have so many brilliant childrens' authors around at the moment. My current favourite author is Katherine Rundell and I would recommend reading all her books! An interesting fact about me is that I grew up living on a farm!

Mr S Marchant - Class Teacher

My name is Mr Marchant, I am a Year 6 teacher and the Physical Education Lead at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy. I have been part of the Glenleigh Park community since January 2020, and I have loved every minute. I feel privileged to work with so many amazing children and such a hard-working team! I have a strong passion for sport and general exercise. Who knew you could keep fit, feel good and have fun all at the same time!? I enjoy playing and watching a wide range of sports, but football has to be my favourite. I play for a 6-aside team once a week, and when I am not playing I often go to watch my favourite team – Brighton and Hove Albion. When I was just two years old, I was the You’ve Been Framed video star of the week for some crazy dancing in my high chair. Visiting the ITV studios and appearing live on the programme is my claim to fame. I am not sure that my dancing is as good these days!

Reading Recovery

Mrs N Freeston - Reading Recovery Teacher

My name is Mrs Freeston and I am a Reading Recovery Teacher and Daily Supported Reading coordinator at Glenleigh  Park  Primary Academy. I love my job because I am passionate about reading and I know that it is very important that every child has a chance to become a reader as early as possible in their school journey.

I am also proud to be part of the Junior Duke team (which is similar to the Duke of Edinburgh Award but for younger children) at Glenleigh and have been involved in running the Junior Duke Club for two years. The club is exciting and enables the students to practice many life skills and grow in independence.

The other aspect of my job that makes me happy is the fact that I can bring my dog Maeve to Glenleigh. She is a school dog and loves spending time with children and staff alike.

Teaching Assistants

Miss L Payne - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

My name is Miss Payne and I've been working in education for over 17 years. Being a Higher Level Teaching Assistant is incredibly rewarding. I love the variety and challenge of the role, from supporting learning in creative ways to building connections with the students. Outside of work, I cherish spending quality time with my family and friends. I enjoy watching a variety of sports and am an avid football fan. A day out at the London Stadium is my favourite day out. I also love building Lego, being cooked for, CrossFit and walking through nature, particularly trudging through muddy woods or on the sand when the tide is out.

Ms O Zdielnikova - Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Hello, I am Ms Olena – as my surname is a little too long and unusual to pronounce, the children simply call me Ms Olena. I began my teaching career 18 years ago in Ukraine. With a Master’s degree in Music, I worked as a music therapist in an orphanage with SEND pupils, and taught music in Early Years Education. Later, I was offered a job at a university in China, where I spent almost nine years in a very international community, introducing future opera singers to European music. During that time, I also had the chance to travel across much of Asia, discovering many different cultures. I would say that my favourite subjects to teach at Glenleigh are RE and Music. I never miss the opportunity to play the piano for children!

Although I don’t always enjoy changes, I can never sit still for long. I’ve explored caves, abseiled down waterfalls like the real Lara Croft, flown in both a paraglider and a helicopter (one day I’ll learn to fly it myself!), and I’ve even dived with sharks. I’m quite handy too – whether it’s recreating embroidery on an antique tapestry, restoring vintage furniture, or fixing a kitchen tap. In my free time, I dance salsa, run a Ukrainian music theatre in Bexhill for charity, and enjoy life with the best French bulldog in the world – of whom I am the proud owner.

Miss A Walsh - Teaching Assistant

My name is Amy Walsh and I originally started at Glenleigh Park in November 2020, in the Nursery as a Nursery Practitioner, when I moved down from London. I now work in the main school. I have always been into sports from a very young age especially football. I was offered an opportunity to move to the USA to play football there, but it was too far away from my family so I chose not to go. At the weekends, I enjoy going for walks and finding new places to visit, and going back to London to see my family and friends. Once a month I like to treat myself to my favourite takeaway, which is a Chinese.

Miss C Axell - Teaching Assistant

My name is Miss Axell and I am a Teaching Assistant at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy. I also work in breakfast club too. I joined the team in September 2015. I love working at Glenleigh Park as no day is ever the same. I love working with my lovely colleagues, and I am lucky enough to work with a wide range of children from across the school. I like to get to know the children and seeing them flourish and grow. Outside work, I enjoy being active. I play netball for a local club, which is great as I get to see my friends as well as taking part in something I enjoy. I also enjoy going swimming and walking in the countryside with my extended family. I love history and enjoy visiting history museums and watching history programmes on TV. I went to Rome a few years ago, visiting the Colosseum, and seeing all the ancient ruins. It was amazing! When I was at secondary school, I received the ‘Sports Girl of the Year Award’ in my year group for my achievements in sport.

Miss W Kennard - Teaching Assistant

My name is Miss Kennard, and I am a Teaching Assistant at Glenleigh Park. I have been a TA for approximately 17 years. The best thing about being in my role is when a child you are working with has a ‘lightbulb’ moment. It is wonderful seeing their faces light up! My favourite food has got to be Marmite and chocolate, but NOT together. I tried that once and it was incredibly YUK! Four years ago I queued up for a very long time, at Chessington, to stroke a baby panda, only to realise after that it was in fact a robotic panda! One day I will travel around Europe in my Motorhome Bessie, chasing the sun! Oh, and I can wiggle my ears.

Mrs C Lawrence - Teaching Assistant

My7u name is Mrs Lawrence. I moved to Bexhill from Kent two years ago and joined the Glenleigh team. I started working in a primary school when my children were at school. My son is now a teacher and my daughter is a social worker. When I am not in school, I spend my time walking along the beach with my partner and our dog and visiting our family and friends. I love lots of different crafts, listening to all types of music and going to see musical theatre shows.

Mrs H Goldsmith - Teaching Assistant

My name is Mrs Goldsmith. I grew up in South Africa on a farm but England has been home to me for many years now. My mother tongue is Afrikaans. I love gardening and enjoy walks along the seaside with my husband. I am mum to two older children and we have a family dog called Sky. I love playing the piano and guitar!

Mrs D Mortimer (on Maternity Leave) - Teaching Assistant

Miss P Allan - Teaching Assistant

My name is Phoebe Allan. I really enjoy working at Glenleigh Park, no two days are the same!  I love supporting the children and watching them grow and learn.

Outside school, I spend lots of time in the kitchen, either cooking for my family or making natural remedies and cosmetics. I also like to keep fit, read and travel when I can.

Ms R Stein -  Teaching Assistant

My name is Rebecca Stein, and I am an SEN Teaching Assistant.

During my time at Glenleigh I have worked with KS1 and Reception. I have been a 1:1 TA and I implement speech and language sessions.

It’s great being a TA. No two days are ever the same, it’s a pleasure to help the children learn and grow as they navigate their way through Glenleigh.

I have three children, two of whom currently attend Glenleigh and an older daughter who works in childcare.

When I’m not at school, I spend lots of time with family and friends.  We love packing up a picnic and finding somewhere new to explore!

Miss R Ilhan - Teaching Assistant

I have a young daughter of my own who keeps me on my toes. We love a Sunday boot sale, a good craft, and a movie night. She is a competitive gymnast so most of my free time is spent being her biggest cheerleader.

Pastoral and Behavioural Assistants

Miss N Jeffery - Pastoral Team

I joined the Glenleigh Park family in 2015 and I relish the fast-paced, positive and rewarding environment the school has to offer. I am a member of the Pastoral team, and I am also a trained Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA). I work at the school providing support to children emotionally, socially and academically. My passion is to empower pupils, helping them build resilience, believe in themselves and achieve their full potential. Working with children is my dream and I love that no two days are ever the same!

At home, I live with my partner and our two sons. I aspire to be a fantastic mother and role model for them both. Family is hugely important to me and in my spare time I love spending time with family and friends, particularly in the outdoors. I studied at the University of Brighton and have a degree in Applied Social Science. One of my greatest achievements is hiking 26 miles across the South Downs for charity in 2019. I am a huge football fan, I support West Ham United and I have had a season ticket with my Dad for a few years!

Miss C Weeks - Pastoral Team

I'm Miss Weeks and I am part of the Pastoral Team here at Glenleigh Park so I'm lucky to work with lots of children right from Nursery through to Year 6! I am also a trained ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and really enjoy being able to work 1:1 or in small groups to help children overcome any challenges they may be facing. Sometimes you may even find me doing hot chocolate breathing or a silly dance, always doing my best to turn a frown upside down!

When I'm not at school my little girl keeps me on my toes! I love reading, watching stand-up comedy, camping and any opportunity to travel and explore new places. Something you might not know about me is that I have worked in Tanzania and I loved it so much I went back a second time!

Miss J Shepherd - Pastoral Team

Hi there, I am Miss Shepherd and I have been a Pastoral and Behavioural Assistant at Glenleigh Park since June 2022. I am also ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) trained and I help children to understand and express their emotions in a constructive way by empowering them to independently come up with strategies that are good for them and good for everyone. I get to know the children on a very personal level and every day is different which makes working at Glenleigh Park so special.

Before I came to this school I worked in nurseries across Germany, where I was born and raised for most of my life, worked as an Au Pair in Canada for two years and finally worked some more in Early Years when I moved to the UK seven years ago.

Travelling is one of my favourite things to do, immersing myself in different cultures and meeting people from all different backgrounds has taught me a lot over the years. That’s why I get excited when we have days like Italy day or Peru day in school as I feel like it’s such a unique way to experience and learn about the world around us.

When I am not travelling or working I love to spend my free time on the motorbike, reading, doing art and meeting up with friends and family - preferably as close to the beach as possible!

I am committed to developing a love for learning that will last a lifetime.

Miss C Bass - Nursery Practitioner

I started off doing my Level 3 as an Apprenticeship and achieved a Distinction for this, so have decided to carry on and put my new learning into practice! Watching children learn, grow and achieve new skills is amazing. I love everything about messy play, putting smiles on the children's faces and making sure they have a fun day every day! I thoroughly enjoy working within Glenleigh Park and King Offa nurseries, as the staff and nursery environment are lovely to work within – they are focused on providing excellent childcare, the schools are great, and every day is different. I enjoy reading, walking, cycling and social gatherings. On an achievement front, I completed several London to Brighton and London to Cambridge bike rides in my younger years. I love anything to do with Christmas and would have the tree up all year round if I could, which has led my friends to nickname me Mother Christmas.

Support Staff

Miss M Gonet – Business Manager

I live with my partner in Hastings, our two teenage sons, our dog Eddie, cat Pickles, my son’s collection of tarantulas, and his aquarium full of fish that would normally inhabit the Amazon rainforest and his vivarium of some poison dart frogs! I joined Aurora Academies Trust in June 2018 as Business Manager of King Offa Primary Academy, and then took on a joint Business Manager role covering both King Offa and Glenleigh Park Primary Academies in April 2020. A key factor in my role is managing the school finances and resources to enable the Leadership Team and teaching staff to provide a high-quality education and a safe and stimulating environment for our pupils. I really enjoy my role at Glenleigh where the children are at the forefront of every decision made. In my time away from work I am a very keen cook and baker; I love to garden and particularly like growing my own fruit and vegetables. I also love to sing and have been involved with various choirs over the years. As one of twelve children, I really value the family atmosphere that prevails at Glenleigh and look forward to being part of the schools’ continuous development.

My favourite place to have visited was Japan, travelling via bullet train around Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto and going to Disneyland/Universal. That was a dream come true for me and I hope to go back one day soon!

Although new to my role here at Glenleigh, the amazing staff and enthusiastic children have made it a wonderful place to be, and I love seeing all our children learn and grow. I can't wait to watch our school continue to grow and be part of the memories our Glenleigh family make here.
