  • HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 17/07/20

Dear Parents/Carers

Today marks the end of this academic year and wow what a year it has been!

If anyone had told me in September that my first headship would involve dealing with a worldwide pandemic, I would have thought they were joking. However, fast forward to July, and I sit here writing this update feeling overwhelmingly emotional about the year but also extremely proud of the incredible team of staff at Glenleigh and how amazing they have all been through such an uncertain time.

We have all had to endure a very challenging period of time and the impact of all our lives has been significant. Nevertheless, looking ahead to September, I am positive about the return of all pupils and cannot wait to reconnect with them all. I would also like to thank you all – parents, carers and wider family members who have made me very welcome over the past year and been so supportive during the past few months. I was incredibly moved today to receive such thoughtful cards and presents from so many of you – I am truly very grateful.

This week in school has been no different to all the other wonderful weeks since we partially reopened, the children have been enthusiastic and engaged; the staff positive and professional.

Across the week, all the classes took part in Glenleigh’s Mini Olympics – it was wonderful to see all the children enjoying the activities and having a socially distanced style sports day. Please see our Facebook page for photos of the events.

As well as all the sporting fun this week the children have taken part in treasure hunts; learnt about how the seaside has changed over time; discussed their hopes and dreams for the future, challenged Mr Marchant to a basketball game and tackled word problems in both maths and English.

Yesterday, you all received your children’s end of year report which although looked different to other years it hopefully captured your child’s learning up until the beginning of lockdown reflecting on their achievements and successes.

Finally, despite Covid 19 disrupting our time together we did manage to pack a lot of fun, laughter and learning into our short year together. I hope that you have a restful and enjoyable summer, and I look forward to catching up in September.

Best wishes and happy holidays to you all,

Mrs Pocock
