HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 21/5/21
Dear Parent and Carers,
Welcome to another heads update, the penultimate week of this term! As always, I am pleased to share that the children have been working hard.
On Wednesday we joined many other schools and organisations, across the country, to celebrate National Numeracy Day. The rationale behind the day was to build children's confidence with numbers. As you can see from the photos on this page, the children at Glenleigh park love numbers and all ideas associated with maths.
Our reception children love investigating number facts, so much so, they found out that a Barosaurus was the same length as 6 cars, which is the same as 22 reception children and 1 teacher! And in comparison a Stegosaurus is 9 metres long... the same as 2 cars or 9 reception children!
Across the school the children have worked hard to problem solve, research and explore all different number related facts and questions. There has been a buzz around the beauty of maths and how fascinating numbers can be.
Also this week, I have been delighted by the writing in year 1. They have been extending their story writing skills and gathering ideas to support their poetry writing, inspired by the book 'What did the tree see?'.
Looking ahead to next week, I want to remind you that the term ends for all pupils on Wednesday 23rd May. Thursday and Friday are teacher training days, we have two jam packed days of training for all the staff. We will be focusing on developing our skills in how to support all the children to achieve academically and socially, after such a challenging year.
Have a wonderful weekend
Mrs Pocock
