Head of School Update - 5/11/21
Good afternoon and welcome to the first update of term 2
It has been a positive and purposeful week at Glenleigh with all the children returning, after the half term break, ready and keen to learn.
The best part of my role as head of school is spending time in all the classes, talking to the children and this week has been no exception. I have been into all classes and the thing that has impressed me the most has been the children’s eagerness to share their learning and tell me about their lessons. You will see from my headlines photos that the year 2 children have been demonstrating their understanding of number bonds to 20 using tens frames and abstract notation. When I was in year 2, the children were able to share their knowledge of how to systematically find all the ways to make 20 and how to represent their calculation, which are all elements of maths mastery. These concepts are so important, to ensure we secure the children’s knowledge of number facts and provide learning experiences that embed the children’s knowledge and most importantly that the learning is remembered by the children.
Also this week, children from our running club entered the Bexhill Cross County Competition at St Richards’s. Well done to everyone that took part – we are very proud of your resilience and determination. Mrs Sinfield shared that everyone tried their best and a large number of children will be placed in the next round due to their results.
Our Open Mornings and Open Evening are taking place next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you have a child who will be starting school in September 2022 please come along and have a tour of the school. If you are applying for a school place for your child, for September 2022, this needs to be done online via the East Sussex County Council website. The closing date for applications is 15th January 2022.
