HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 27/11/2020
Fri 27 Nov 2020Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to this week’s update.
On Thursday, we were so excited to welcome back the children who had been at home self-isolating. Having the school back to full capacity has been wonderful; the children were straight back to learning and enjoying all their lessons. In year 1, they have been designing their movable toys as part of their exciting Toy Story learning journey and loving their Read Write Inc lessons.
All week, throughout the school, I have been incredibly impressed with the pupil’s eagerness to achieve. In assembly on Monday, I shared our theme of achievement and spoke about how we can achieve in lots of different ways. Some children have achieved by improving their writing, some have learnt to read new sounds and some have improved their listening skills. In addition, as you can see from my headline photo, three of our key stage 2 children have achieved mathematical greatest by being crowned our Times Tables Rockstars.
Next Monday, our Christmas tree will be arriving. All the children have designed and made a decoration to hang on the tree; I know the office team are looking forward to all the sparkle and shine that will fill the entrance hall when the tree is adorned with the children’s artistic creations.
Over the next few weeks we have lots of Christmas events, so please make sure you are checking your emails, children’s book bags and remember to take a look at the weekly bulletin for any updates and messages.
Lots of the children have shared that they are putting up their Christmas decorations this weekend, so I hope your weekend is full of shimmer, glitter and sparkle!

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 20/11/20
Fri 20 Nov 2020Happy Friday everyone!
This week, as always has been a busy one with lots to celebrate and acknowledge. Firstly, I want to thank all the children for their amazing behaviour and positive approach on Wednesday when we had the flu vaccination. The Immunisation Team were so impressed with the children and commented on how well they all behaved.
Also, I have been impressed with the children perseverance this week, all the classes have been undertaking assessments of their learning and the children have attempted the tasks with a growth mindset and eagerness to demonstrate what they can achieve. It is wonderful to see our four school values being demonstrated so fantastically by all the children – they should be very proud of their progress so far this year.
Some of our youngest children have experienced their first Read Write Inc lessons thsi week and are becoming very confident with their Fred Talk.
Finally, it has been wonderful to hear the sound of singing in the school again today, all the children have all started to learn their special Christmas song and we are beginning to feel slightly festive here at Glenleigh.
Have a lovely weekend – wrap up warm and take care.

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 13/11/2020
Fri 13 Nov 2020Dear Parents/Carers
I would like to start this week’s heads update by thanking you all for your kindness, understanding and support regarding the confirmed case at Glenleigh Park. I am sure, like me, you will be pleased to hear that the child is well and in good health. During these challenging times, it is so important that we all work together to keep each other safe and be considerate of each other’s feelings.
The whole team at Glenleigh have been incredible in ensuring we follow all the PHE advice as well as the government and relevant agencies guidance. As you know all our plans are regularly reviewed and adapted as the guidance changes, please be reassured we will always keep you updated and informed.
As you can see from my headline photo today was a training day for the staff and our focus was Maths Mastery – all the staff have enjoyed learning more about the 5 Big ideas in Maths Mastery and are keen to use these concepts with the children on Monday.
On Monday, we launched Maths week with our Times Tables Rockstar dress up day and Number Blocks for EYFS – the day was such a success and the excitement around Maths was magical. All week, the children have been challenging themselves to tackle tricky timetables and demonstrate their problem solving skills.
Have a safe weekend, and I look forward to seeing you all next week.

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE – 6/11/2020
Fri 06 Nov 2020Welcome to the first heads update for term 2.
Although, we did not welcome the children back to school until Wednesday this week, on Monday and Tuesday the staff took part in some important, informative and inspiring improvement days. On Monday, we continued our training on curriculum design and how to ensure we are motivating the children to think deeply in the lessons; to be motivated to questions and enquire – in a focused and supported way.
Then on Tuesday, we launched our new phonics programme – Read Write Inc. Here are some links to more information about this new and exciting way we will teaching phonics.

Further information will be coming home to parents soon about how you can support your children with their phonic and reading skills.
On Wednesday, I was so impressed with the calm and enthusiastic way the children returned to school. Having such glorious Autumnal days this week, has meant we have been able to make the most of being outside and the children have enjoyed run a mile and PE outside.
I would also like to thank all those parents who are following our guidance and social distancing outside the school gates. As per my letter on Thursday, currently we are not asking parents to wear masks, but fully support those parents who wish to wear them. Also please as a reminder, unless it is urgent, please email or ring the school so we can minimise the time staff need to remain on the gates.
Finally, I wanted to share the link to our promotional video. https://youtu.be/A9Fu-3rA4Lc
I am immensely proud of the film; it encapsulates exactly how wonderful Glenleigh Park Primary Academy is! It shows how happy, motivated and enthusiastic the staff and children are to learn, so please share the video far and wide.
Have a good weekend
Mrs Pocock
