HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE 26/6/20
Fri 26 Jun 2020Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to this week’s weekly update! It’s been another fantastic week at Glenleigh Park Primary Academy, filled with laughter, learning and lots of loveable moments. The highlight of my week was being invited to watch two of our normally audience shy children perform the Bear Hunt story – they were so animated and word perfect – it was a joy to watch.
On Monday, we welcomed back more of our pupils and I was very impressed with how smoothly and swiftly they settled in to the new routine and expectations of school. Well done everyone!
In Reception this week, the pupils have been studying the book Rainbow fish and as you can see in our headline photo, enjoying the outside space as a learning environment. Olivia really impressed me with her mathematical understanding and her use of doubles.
Our pupils in Year 1 have been writing their own stories based on the book the Lonely Penguin. Rosie in Butterflies told me all about her Super Hamster and Evil Dog inspired story, her ideas were amazing and very funny.
In Year 6, the pupils have been making the most of the wonderful weather and have been outside developing their golf skills, rounder’s techniques and setting themselves obstacle challenges. Umar told me that he is enjoying being back at school and that he nearly beat Mr Green in a running race. Grace said, “I feel happy being at school, learning more and I enjoy having help from adults when I need it’.
In our keyworker bubbles the children have been exploring different books written by Anthony Browne, who is an internationally acclaimed author and illustrator of children’s books. His books encourage children to think deeply not just about the language but the story that is told through the pictures. Oakley said, “I like spotting all the hidden images in the picture” and Mr Marchant was keen to share that every day he discovers something new in the books and has enjoyed the children’s enthusiasm for the stories.
Finally, I’d like to end with a quote from Miss Sargent, “I have really enjoyed welcoming the children back, it has been calm and the children have coped fantastically. It is such a great atmosphere at school.”
Have a relaxing weekend everyone!

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE 19/06/2020
Fri 19 Jun 2020Dear parents and carers,
Today marks the end of our first two weeks of our partial re-opening to pupils in our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. It has been wonderful to welcome some of our year groups back to school and the children have certainly enjoyed all the learning and activities.
My concerns around how the children would settle back into school were unfounded as even though the children had been away from school for more than two months – a long time. I needn’t have worried – all of the children, without exception, have come to school, ready to learn and excited to reunite with their friends and teachers and being confident to talk about their lock-down experiences – I am very proud of them all!
This week, children in year 6 have been challenging themselves with long division and writing story settings, whilst Year 1 have been studying the book Super Worm and creating their own fabulous rhymes. Mrs Sinfield kindly invited me to hear some of the rhymes – well done children I was very impressed. In reception the children have loved reading the book ‘Commotion in the Ocean and you can see their fabulous art work in our headline photo.
On Monday, we are excited to be welcoming back more children from reception, Year 1 and Year 6 and I am sure they will settle in as brilliantly as our current cohort of children.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their commitment and dedication during the past two weeks – it has been a huge effort to get the school reopened and I am grateful for their continued enthusiasm and teamwork.
To all of our families – Thank you! It has been so lovely to chat to you on the gates and hear how pleased you are with the measures we have in place to keep everyone safe.
Please take care and stay safe!Mrs Pocock

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE 12/06/2020
Fri 12 Jun 2020Today marks the end of the first week back to our partial re-opening to pupils in our Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6! It has been a wonderful week; I have really enjoyed welcoming back some of our pupils and appreciated having the opportunity to talk with their families at the start and end of the school day. I am incredibly proud of all the pupils, who came in smartly and, most importantly, excitedly, ready to reunite with their friends and teachers – some familiar faces – all from a distance of course!
Our Facebook page shows some of the activities that have taken place in school and the nursery over the week. Year 6 have been exploring the book The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy, creating their own inspirational quotes and discovering how to be kind to others and themselves. Our keyworker bubbles have been predicting and investigating scientific phenomena looking at chemical reactions. Year 1 have been talking about staying safe at school, having bubble lunches and we have even had a giant bubble making competition in reception.
This is a great opportunity to offer my ‘thanks’. Firstly, to you – during these uncertain times, the support you have provided the school has been incredibly welcome. It has been challenging for so many of us, for a number of reasons, but there has been a real sense of community spirit. Thank you!
Secondly, the staff team have worked tirelessly and unconditionally across the weeks that we have been closed and put in an incredible effort last week, moving furniture and redesigning classrooms in preparation that we could be ready to open, and I’d like to thank them all for their commitment. Finally, a school is really just a building without children, so to be able to reopen, even if to just a few year groups, meant a lot to the staff. The pupils were incredibly calm and sensible. Wider than that, I know that our pupils have been working on their learning packs at home. The teachers have loved keeping in touch and enjoyed receiving all the fantastic home learning photos and updates. Thank you to you all!
I look forward to welcoming back all of our pupils, whenever this may be! Should you wish to contact us, please use the school office email address (GLPAOffice@AuroraAcademies.org) and someone will get back to you as soon as they are able to.
Continue to stay safe and look after each other!
