Head of School update - 26/11/21
Fri 26 Nov 2021Dear Parents and Carers,
This week, the children in year 2 have experienced the awe and wonder of bringing history to life! They have travelled back in time to the year 1666 and immersed themselves into understanding how and why the fire started and what impact this historic event had on London. You can see from my headline photos that the children dressed up in costumes from the time period, re-enacted the fire spreading and learnt to write with quills. It was a memorable experience for them all and the excitement in the classroom and buzz of learning was magical. The children have discovered how to questions historical sources and how we know about the past. Being a historian is a fascinating job!
This afternoon, you will have received two letters – one from East Sussex County Council and one from Mr. McCarthy, CEO for Aurora Academies Trust. The letters outline the current picture surrounding Covid-19 cases in East Sussex and that this has led to a decision that all Aurora schools will not be holding this year’s festive events with parents and carers. I appreciate that this will be disappointing for parents, however, as a school we will do all that we can to ensure that we are able to bring these festive performances to you, somehow, and we will update you with our plans for how we will do this, next week.
Please take the time to read both of these letters.
The weather is certainly changing. Despite some pleasant sunshine across this week, this is very deceptive and the temperature is dropping. Please can I remind all parents to ensure that their child has a suitable coat for these colder conditions.
As always, thank you for your understanding and support.
Have a great weekend
My very best wishes
Mrs Pocock

Head of School Update - 19/11/21
Fri 19 Nov 2021Welcome to this weeks update.
Kindness is more important today than it has ever been. The isolation of the last year has underlined how little acts of consideration can break down barriers and brighten the lives of the people around us. This is one of the reasons, that ‘One Kind Word’ has been chosen as the theme of Anti-Bullying Week. To mark the week, the children were invited to wear odd socks, which is such a great way to celebrate what makes us all unique.
Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event, held in the third week in November, which aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people, in schools and elsewhere, and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. At Glenleigh Park this week, we have raised awareness through our whole school assembly, our lessons and our actions. You can see some examples of this learning in the headline photos - the children have created walls of kindness, draw images to represent the Bruno Mars song “Count on Me” and celebrated Elmer’s 5th birthday.
I want to say a huge thank you to you all for your generosity this week. Our book fair raised over £1000. This is a large sum of money, which has enabled us to buy many new and exciting books for the library. Also, thank you to the members of the PTA who kindly gave up their time to support Mr Bristow-Diamond in running the book fair smoothly and safely for the children.
Lastly, I want to say thank you to the staff, everyone has been helping and supporting each other through our staff absence challenges. I am so very proud of our school community and the kindness we all show.
Take care and enjoy the weekend,
Mrs Pocock

Head of School Update - 5/11/21
Fri 05 Nov 2021Good afternoon and welcome to the first update of term 2
It has been a positive and purposeful week at Glenleigh with all the children returning, after the half term break, ready and keen to learn.
The best part of my role as head of school is spending time in all the classes, talking to the children and this week has been no exception. I have been into all classes and the thing that has impressed me the most has been the children’s eagerness to share their learning and tell me about their lessons. You will see from my headlines photos that the year 2 children have been demonstrating their understanding of number bonds to 20 using tens frames and abstract notation. When I was in year 2, the children were able to share their knowledge of how to systematically find all the ways to make 20 and how to represent their calculation, which are all elements of maths mastery. These concepts are so important, to ensure we secure the children’s knowledge of number facts and provide learning experiences that embed the children’s knowledge and most importantly that the learning is remembered by the children.
Also this week, children from our running club entered the Bexhill Cross County Competition at St Richards’s. Well done to everyone that took part – we are very proud of your resilience and determination. Mrs Sinfield shared that everyone tried their best and a large number of children will be placed in the next round due to their results.
Our Open Mornings and Open Evening are taking place next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you have a child who will be starting school in September 2022 please come along and have a tour of the school. If you are applying for a school place for your child, for September 2022, this needs to be done online via the East Sussex County Council website. The closing date for applications is 15th January 2022.
