HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 17/7/21
Fri 16 Jul 2021Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the final Head of School update for this academic year.
It has been a particularly busy week – the children have participated in Sports Days, beach trips, zorbing, pirate day and year 2 finally went on their school trip to Battle Abbey today.
In addition, all of the children met their new class teacher yesterday afternoon and visited their new classroom. It was an extremely exciting event and the children had a great time, despite our year 5 bubble closing. I hope that the children shared their excitement with you and that the year 5 children have been able to access the video messages from their year 6 teachers on Purple Mash.
Sadly for us, Mrs Blake will be leaving us at the end of term as she will be moving to a school closer to her. I would like to take this opportunity to say an extra special thank you to Mrs Blake, she has been an asset to the Glenleigh Park team. I am sure you will all join me in wishing her the very best. We will miss her!
At the start of this week you should have received your child’s report, as always if there is anything you are unsure of, please let the office team know and we will ensure the right person gets in touch with you.
Finally, thank you to all parents and carers for your amazing support and understanding throughout this somewhat unsettled year. We really appreciate your support.
Have a fantastic weekend, and a super summer
My very best wishes
Mrs Pocock

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 9/7/21
Fri 09 Jul 2021Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to this week’s update.
It was an absolute delight to welcome back all our reception, year 1 and year 2 children on Tuesday. The classrooms were a hive of activity and the children’s eagerness to learn was excellent. By 9am, all the children were busy with their phonics lessons and immersed in their reading activities.
On Tuesday, during my whole school assembly via Teams link, we recalled the school’s four values (Growth, Perseverance, Positivity, and Achievement). I shared the book ‘Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish’ as it beautifully portrays how important it is that we think about what is good for everyone in our daily lives. Then throughout the week, I have treasured seeing all the children demonstrate these values.
Especially our year 3 children who braved the changeable weather on Wednesday and headed to Bexhill beach. As you can see from the linked photos, the children created pebble towers, collected shoreline items, dipped their toes in the waves, laughed, smiled and had a completely delightful day.
The children told me that they had an awesome time and that they were quite surprised to find such a gigantic crab on the shores of Bexhill. Mr Wheeler and Mr Marchant shared that they could not have been prouder of the children’s behaviour and attitudes, with one passerby commenting on how impressed they were with the children’s behaviour. Well done year 3!
I really hope you have a wonderful weekend.
For those of you watching the football, let’s hope 'It is Coming Home' and that England continue to make us proud.
Best wishes
Mrs Pocock

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 2/7/21
Fri 02 Jul 2021Welcome to this week’s update, I hope you are well.
It has been a very quiet week in school with the closure of our reception, year 1 and year 2 classes. The decision to close the bubbles is not one we take lightly and, as always, every decision we make is taken in line with guidance published by the Department of Education and Public Health England (PHE). We have really missed all the children’s smiley happy faces and we are looking forward to welcoming the pupils back to school next week.
In year 6 this week, some of the children were able to welcome John Khan to visit (social distancing measure were strictly adhered too!) who delivered some excellent transition activities with the children. John encouraged the children to reflect on their time at Glenleigh Park, thinking about the parts they have enjoyed, the parts they will miss and the parts they may not miss. The activities provided the children with an opportunity to discuss what they are excited and worried about ahead of their new adventures at secondary school. Alongside this, John modelled and taught the children how to produce some fantastic graffiti artwork, which you can see in the headline photos.
Year 5 have been working hard on developing their knowledge of fractions. On Monday, Ms Barnard and I had the pleasure of working in Sycamore class; we were super impressed by the level of engagement in their maths mastery lesson. Mastering maths means pupils are acquiring a deep, long-term, secure and transferable understanding of maths so they can apply their knowledge across the curriculum. Miss Sargent, one of our maths leads, has been working with the children and staff across key stage 2 to enhance their knowledge of mastery maths – well done everyone.
Our plans for pupils to meet their new teacher are under way, we are hopeful that nearer to the end of term we will be able to organise a moving up afternoon. Teachers are currently writing the children’s end of year reports and will be delighted when they can share them with you.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff for their commitment and dedication; I am grateful for their continued enthusiasm and teamwork.
Have a wonderful weekend, lets hope the England football team can bring a smile to all our faces with a win on Saturday!
