Head of School Update - 22.10.21
Fri 22 Oct 2021Today marks the end of the first term and what a jam-packed term it has been!
We have focused on writing across the school, starting with a whole school writing unit on the book ‘The Dot’. We used the book to inspire all the children, as it demonstrates how creative thinking on the part of a teacher can unlock a child's own creativity, confidence, and growth. These are all attributes that we promote at Glenleigh Park; that align with our four values.
As you will see from the headline photos, we have also been writing fairy tales, creating purposeful poetry, developing our phonics knowledge and story mapping the adventures of Claude. Throughout the whole term, the children have shown such determination and energy to write both creatively and imaginatively.
In addition to being inventive writers, the children have been immersed in a variety of art activities – ranging from Ancient Greek inspired screen-printing to fine line and charcoal cave paintings.
Also, this term we have used our democratic skills to vote for our class school council representatives. Mrs latter has worked closely with the school council to facilitate their ideas and create a collective ambition for how they can work together to present their ideas. Next term, I plan to meet with the representatives to hear their ideas and plan their next steps. I am looking forward to receiving their visionary ideas.
Then to end the term we have had our Spooky Halloween dress up day, this event was made possible by the hardwork of our PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association). We are so grateful for the work they do, which is all voluntary, as the money they raise is used for all the children at Glenleigh Park. This year the aim is to raise sufficient funds to enhance the playground with thermoplastic markings - all the money you donate is very much appreciated.
During the half term break, the clocks go back (31 October at 2am) this marks the end of British Summer Time. Good news though as it means an extra hour in bed.
Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you on 1st November.
Take care

HEAD OF SCHOOL UPDATE - 8/10/21
Fri 08 Oct 2021Welcome to this week’s update,
To celebrate National Poetry day we decided to look at poems by Joshua Seigal. All the classes took inspiration from his poems and we were luckily to receive a personalised message from the poet.
“Hello everyone at Glenleigh Park. I am so happy that you are going to be looking at some of my poems today! When I started writing poems I had no idea whether anyone would read them, so I am really glad that you are going to focusing on them today. Hopefully you will like at least some of them. If there are one or two you don't like, that is OK too. In fact, one of my books is called I Don't Like Poetry, and it is especially for people that think they don't like it. Hopefully my poems will change one or two minds. I think the most important thing about poetry is that it can be really fun and creative, so I hope you enjoy playing with words today. Thank you so much for reading my poems - it really means the world to me!”
The children have all written their own poems and Mr Green has sent some to Joshua Seigal. I hope that he will be inspired by the work of our children at Glenleigh Park and that he is as impressed with the poems as we are.
Across the school, the teachers have been working hard with the children to ensure that our school values are threaded and embedded throughout all we do. As you can see from my headline photo, two of our reception children are showing perseverance and achievement by working together to build a very tall tower.
This week I had a very productive meeting with our PTFA (parent, teachers and friends association). They are working hard to plan many exciting fundraising events throughout the year. The first being our Halloween dress up day at the end of this term. It would be great if everyone can support these events as the money raised benefits all the children at Glenleigh Park.
Please do have a look at the weekly bulletin, it has important information, events and dates and helpful hints.
Lastly, the school photos went smoothly and successfully today, all the children dazzled the photographer with their very best smiles – we look forward to receiving the photos soon.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Pocock
